Somatics; moving beyond words

Unlocking the wisdom of your body

Somatic therapy offers a pathway to feel in order to heal. Somatic therapy allows a way to listen to your body’s full playlist not just your brain’s consistent greatest hits.

Derived from Greek, soma means living body. Somatic work focuses on what you intentionally notice within your body; a felt sense, a posture, movement, sensation, sigh or breath. Instead of using words to describe what happened perhaps you ask yourself where you feel something within your chest, your throat, back or neck. This noticing brings information which may allow for the discharge of energy that can become stuck in the body during a difficult life experience or story.

The soma is a storage unit, an archive of lived experience both past and present. When you begin to attune to your body and her information you can release and even re-pattern traumas and experiences that talking alone cannot always reach. Your breath is a body based entry point, with you consistently. Breathwork allows us to tune in to how the breath wants to move in rhythm, sensation and regulation. In talk therapy you may understand your stress or triggers. In active, focused breathwork you will feel it. All the sensations, tears, laughter, sighs and trembling become more available and welcome.

Your breath is medicine.
